Quick Update on Brunswick Euro Challenge

The Duke is out, having lost to Rob Thurlby of England 2-0 in the Round of 8. That leaves only Mike Fagan still in the hunt, and he is currently tied 1-1 with Ildemaro Ruiz of Venezuela.

Stay tuned for the final results of the Brunswick Euro Challenge.

  1. I just checked and see that Rob Thurlby of England won the tournament. It certainly is a different format for finals with 3 single game matches, with 2 wins needed to determine the outcome and total pins not being a factor. When they got to the final rounds for the real money, single game matches determined the winner. Seems that they should have kept it the same as earlier matches. Probably changed the format for the Television show.

  2. I think they should have gone with best-of-seven or at least best-of-five game matches in the bracket rounds, but I guess they didn't have enough time for that.

I'm disappointed that none of the Americans made it to the stepladder, but at least Parker Bohn won the 300 shootout.

I'd like to see more of the best Americans compete on the international circuit when the PBA is on hiatus or folds completely like I'm afraid it's on the brink of doing.

And I'd like to see more of the best bowlers from Europe, Asia (especially the powerhouse Malaysians), and all over the world compete in PBA events here. Judging from the scores, I get the impression the PBA oil patterns are more challenging than the what the Euro Challenge put out.

In any case, I love following these international competitions and will be doing a lot more reporting of it on my blog.
