Bowling Video of the Day--Sean Rash Fiasco in Singapore

I posted the other day that Kelly Kulick won a tournament in Malaysia last weekend. But the videos below feature Sean Rash being far less successful in the final match of last year's 42nd Singapore International Open. I don't post them to criticize or embarrass Sean, but I have to say that they exhibit some of the best and worst of him on the lanes.

Sean Rash is extremely talented physically and throws a tremendously powerful and impressive ball. But he can also be frustratingly flaky with his incessant balks, excessive speed, wild strike shots, missed single pin spares, and bouts of blatant unprofessionalism on the lanes.

Sean Rash is like an untamed stallion with immense promise. I hope he finds a way to fulfill that promise someday. I love to watch him bowl, except for when I don't.

  1. His arrogance and spoiled child demeanor have made him one of my least favorites. An ESPN interview touched on that and he responded that he's not arrogant, he is confident, that he needs to be that confident and that people are mistaking his confidence for arrogance. hmmmm Well, perhaps he will mature some day and understand that he needs not behave that way. Until then, I'll continue to root for his opponents while watching or doing something else other than watching his match.

  2. Kerry, I admit that his conduct during the Singapore match was no credit to him, the PBA, or the USA. However, I don't think he's ever behaved so badly at televised PBA events. Furthermore, he is so darned talented physically and so fun to watch that I could never turn away from watching him. Finally, I have the impression that he's growing up on the lanes, and I hope that his immature conduct will soon be a thing of the past.

  3. I don't think that I'm anywhere near as familiar with the players as you. So, my impressions are certainly open to debate. Perhaps my threshold is too high, but my threshold is whether or not I think that I'd like to spend the day competing against him. The answer to that is no. I don't enjoy the tense atmosphere that such competitors create.

I too, hope that he matures. Until then, there are many, many other very talented players that I much prefer to watch.

  4. I understand where you're coming from, Kerry. I like to see professional athletes, including bowlers, show class rather than be crass. And I somehow think it's even worse when a PBA Touring pro acts poorly in an international competition such as the one with Rash in the video. That was an embarrassment for which I hope he faced some kind of censure when he returned home. However, like I said, I don't think he generally acts that way, and he is a truly gifted bowler physically.
