Perfect 900 Series in Illinois

"In the ninth frame of the third game I rang a 10 pin. Then a messenger came and took it out. Thank God."
--Andrew Mank

Well, it's happened again. Someone else has rolled a sanctioned 900 series. Andrew Mank of Bellville, Ill. became only the 15th person ever to bowl a USBC approved 900 series for three games. He did it on March 18, 2010 in his Thursday Men's Handicap League.

The 22-year-old has now set his sights even higher. He wants to be the first to shoot a 900 in a sanctioned sport league and, ultimately, he plans to turn pro. You can read the whole story here.

I know that some will say that, sanctioned or not, the lanes must have been walled up for this young man to do what he did. Maybe. Maybe not. But I don't care how easy the lanes might have been. It's still amazing to carry 36 strikes in a row in league, and the USBC approved it. Congratulations, Andrew.

  1. It shows you how much easier the game has become when there have been 15 series of 900 since 1997, When I bowled the unsanctioned 900 series on April 10, 1980, it was the first one since 1937. Five years later Glenn Allison bowled the next one. Mine was in round robin pot games across 6 lanes in games 10, 11, and 12 for the night. After there became so many, the Guiness Book of Records removed the category from the book. Mine did remain in the book during the 1980's though.
