Bowling Quote of the Day--Billy Welu's Tender Touch

"We speak about bowling being a game of timing and coordination, not one of force and power. You do not need the mighty arm, you need the tender touch."

What poetic and beautiful words! But are they as true today as they were when Billy uttered them? Bowling at all levels today seems to reward the "mighty arm" and the mighty "arsenal" as much if not more than it does a "tender touch." Is this a good thing?

  1. I love Welu's quotes and was unfamiliar as to this one. How I *wish* it were still true today as I have never been one that had a 'mighty arm' delivery. How the change of lane surface, bowling balls and oil patterns have devolved the sport.

  2. Does anyone remember one of Billy Welu's expressions (he had so many),

"Like kicking chickens in a bucket".

He was definitely an original. He was a big part of taking the PBA telecast from dry to enjoyable.

My daughter thinks I made it up.
