~ Woessner crushes all-events record at Women's Championships -- "Jodi Woessner of Oregon, Ohio, charged into the record books Friday at the 2010 USBC Women's Championships, crushing the all-time record for all-events and tying the record for three-game series. Woessner had a scratch all-events total of 2,330, an average of 258.8 for nine games, at the El Paso Convention and Performing Arts Center to beat the previous record of 2,231 set by Leanne Hulsenburg in 2005. After shooting 764 in team Thursday night, Woessner returned Friday afternoon and fired 816 in doubles and 750 in singles. Woessner's doubles set tied the three-game series record set last year when Michelle Feldman shot 816 to win singles..." (Can you say, "The Great Wall of Texas"?)

~ Indiana bowler reaches 50 years at USBC Open Championships -- "Don Mitchell of Indianapolis became the 125th bowler to reach 50 years of participation at the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships on Thursday night. The 78-year-old right-hander made his first USBC Open Championships appearance at the 1950 event in Columbus, Ohio, and made his milestone march down Center Aisle in front of his family, friends and fellow bowlers at the National Bowling Stadium..."

~ Mountain View bowling alley to close May 8, become storage -- "Lucky Strike Lanes and Lounge, a Mountain View landmark since 1961, is closing May 8. The bowling establishment at 151 Park Lane will be gutted and converted into a heated storage facility, said Bob Porcelli, the manager..."

~ Rapid City bowler strikes with PBA Tour regional title -- "Sometimes, a pause speaks volumes. So when Rapid City bowler Ricky Beck has to hesitate before responding to a query about how many 300 games he has bowled, it’s a safe assumption the man can roll his ball. His delayed response of “Thirty or so,” convincingly confirms that hypothesis. His recent play, moreover, was good enough to help him win the Professional Bowlers Association’s Greater Denver Open, a Southwest Region event, the first weekend in April. The win, Beck’s first PBA title in only his second appearance in a regional event, came as a pleasant surprise, despite the fact that the retired Air Force veteran had competed and won a number of amateur tournaments around the world during his tour of duty..."

~ Boardman bowler cashes in big prize -- "While some of us await a refund check that might be worth a couple hundred dollars, Steve Sullivan, “The Machine,” of Boardman has been waiting for a $50,000 check. The 21-year-old YSU student’s remitter, however, will be AMF — not the IRS. Sullivan earned the prize on April 17 after beating a Charlotte, N.C., competitor in the AMF National In-League Tournament finals at the Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas..."

~ Questions on RG, synthetic lanes and the helicopter release -- "Q: I like a low-RG ball with the pin under my finger. My rev rate is around 280 with medium speed. On fresh to medium lane conditions, I prefer to play the outside line. I recently purchased a ball with a high RG rating to combat the weak 10-pin. Should I drill this ball with the pin under the ring finger or above for more late reaction?...Q: Do synthetic lanes ever develop a track? A friend of mine says they’re too hard for that...Q: Can you tell me the advantages and disadvantages of throwing a spinner?...Q: I recently heard a discussion on Phantom Radio about 1973, when Don McCune had the soaker. ~ My Top 10 Moments from the 09-10 Season -- "Each season surely has its memorable moments, but there were an abundance of stories spread across this year's Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour season. I'm sure that everyone has different ideas as to what their top 10 moments are, but I want to take the time to put my own "spin" on it."

~ PBA Action Continues Sunday on ESPN With PBA Experience Showdown Presented by BOWL.COM -- "The 2009-10 Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour’s regular season is over, but competition continues Sunday on ESPN with the first of two special events from the new International Training and Research Center located on the International Bowling Campus. Eleven of the sport’s top players and six United States Bowling Congress league bowlers will compete in the PBA Experience Showdown and the PBA Women’s Series Showdown, both presented by BOWL.COM, which will air on ESPN on Sundays April 11 and April 18 at 1 p.m. Eastern, respectively."

~ Travel warning issued -- "Bowlers competing in the USBC Women’s Championships in the Texas border city of El Paso are being urged to stay on the U.S. side, and not venture into Juarez, Mexico. That town has been beset by violence, mostly connected to Mexico’s drug gangs. Last month, three people with ties to the U.S. Consulate in Juarez were killed...Some have blamed the violence in Juarez for the big drop in entries for this year’s tournament. Others point to America’s economic downturn, the worst since the Depression, and some speculate that the switch to an all-handicap format kept some bowlers from entering."

~ Action: Rudy Revs -- "Despite his growing reputation, or perhaps because of it, Rudy Revs and the other shooters (the legendary Ritchie Hornreich being in the twilight of his remarkable career) were attracting action from all over the East Coast. Bowlers and railbirds would start streaming into Woodmere Lanes or “The Cage” late on Friday nights, and the jawing would begin… as if it had ever stopped. “There was a lot of arguing about doubles match-ups, challenges back and forth,” Rudy says. “There was a lot of B.S. and haggling.”
