No reason it couldn't, other than TV airtime, that I can think of.

KerryAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6444929631802239779.post-3828571068603599872011-04-13T14:40:14.059-07:002011-04-13T14:40:14.059-07:00I agree, Kerry. I still prefer and probably always will prefer the traditional format of round robin top 24 (or so) match play followed by a stepladder finals on TV. This gives the best bowlers that week a chance to make the finals, and, except for the second to bottom seed, the higher they finish, the fewer games they need to bowl to win the title.

However, what I like about the finals format for this Sunday is that someone can fail to have the highest score and still advance to the next game if someone else has an even lower score. And then the two who advance get to bowl TWO games against each other to determine who wins the title. This gives the best performer that day a little better chance to win than if it all comes down to one game with the good or bad luck that can disproportionately favor one bowler or hurt the other.Stevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02549770321948541384noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6444929631802239779.post-62482044010025221222011-04-13T14:28:13.260-07:002011-04-13T14:28:13.260-07:00It would seem that Allen really has his work cut o...It would seem that Allen really has his work cut out for him. If Barnes shows up with a repeat of his last performance, Allen will get a chance to really show his stuff.

I don't believe that I like this type of format for a tournament. Did the cream really rise to the top? Was it really wise to guarantee that top level bowlers would be sent home early because they were pitted against one another too early in the tournament?

For example was it really a good idea to have O'Neill, Malott, and Jurek in the same match or Dick Allen, WRW, and Koivuniemi?

KerryAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
